Ice Cream Birthday Party

I love to throw a party, the planning and seeing the vision come to life is my favorite part. For the girls birthdays we typically have a rather large party filled with family, friends, neighbors and our home is filled with so much love and laughter. This year that was not the case, I found comfort knowing I wasn't alone in feeling that Caroline wouldn't have a birthday like she was accustomed to. and... we improvised, whether her birthday is celebrated with two people or fifty it would still be one to be remembered.

The planning began, and the theme changed about a handful of times, then it clicked, an ice cream sundae birthday party (celebrated on a Sunday) to celebrate sweet sweet Caroline turning FOUR. To keep the guests to a minimum we celebrated with my immediate side of the family (and shared a party with my Dad and one of my brothers whom also have birthdays in August). It was the most perfect weekend for our little girl. Then for her actual birthday weekend we are celebrating her with my husbands side of the family and a special trip to the American Girl Store for the bistro birthday celebration. I'd say it has been the most celebrated birthday yet, even if she didn't get to have a party with all of her friends.

If I have learned anything this year, the year of 2020, it is that things will not go as planned or as I would have hoped and wished for. Did I mention her original party was actually moved up a week and hosted out of town? With this theme I had a vision of going so over the top, with an ice cream cart, backdrops, etc.... plans changed, shipping delays, you name it... then I realized all of that didn't matter. What mattered most was celebrating as a family, so what if I lost/forgot decorations at home. It all came together and was so perfect and magical for Caroline.

Back to the Ice Cream Sundae Birthday Party details, in this post I'll be sharing shops I partnered with and all about the decorations, etc. I love to go over the top with balloons, it makes me happy and also makes a big birthday statement.

The Details:

Dresses - Christian Elizabeth & Co.

Birthday Banner & Ice Cream Cone Wand(s) - Little Happies

Balloons, Garland Kit, Plates/Napkins, Ice Cream Truck Decor - The Party Darling

Invitations & Gift Tags - Honey Bear Pages

Pink Check Table Cloth - Zhen Linens

Cookies - Eight Arms Bakery

Balloon Garlands/Ice Cream Cone:

Balloon Garland Strip

Glue Dots

Lots and lots of balloons in many sizes 5" - 24"

Electric Balloon Buddy

Balloon Stand

260Q Balloons

Let me say, the ice cream cone was a work of art, it took me over an hour to piece it all together. The ice-cream scoop itself was approx. 100+ 5 inch balloons pieces together into quads. I love the way it came together and the sprinkles are so extra. The fireplace balloon garland was heavy with the birthday banner attached to it, so we had to really secure it with fishing line and hooks anchored to the mantle. I typically start with a large balloon and then just keep adding in different colors/textures (sprinkle balloons) until its complete.

Misc. Details:

  1. Ice Cream Cone Cake - To save time I had a local bakery make a simple white round cake, that I would decorate. I found some cake drip icing at Joann's, followed the directions and did the same to the basic cake. I then molded a cupcake into a ball for the scoop of ice-cream and dipped it in white chocolate to hold its shape. Once the first layer of dripped pink hardened I placed the white chocolate scoop on the cake, poured more pink, set waffle cone on top, then finished by adding sprinkles.
  2. Cotton Candy Waffle Cone - shaped pink/white cotton candy into a waffle cone, placed in a cello bag and tied together with a pink gingham bow. After the fact, I thought it would have been fun to dip these cones in chocolate/sprinkles around the rim.
  3. Sugar Cookie Party Favors - added spritz paper shreds in a cello bad, then added a cookie and tied together with a blue gingham bow and thank you tag from Honey Bear Pages (all my nephews are boys, hence the blue).
  4. Flower Arrangements - added sprinkles, a waffle cone with white carnations and real cherry on top.
  5. Dipped Waffle Cones (I didn't get any images), I took waffle cones, rolled about an inch of the rim in dark chocolate then dusted with sprinkles. Let me just say we didn't need any cake because all the guests wanted the dipped cones and ice cream. They were a hit.

If you have any questions about the party, or the balloon tutorials just send me an email or comment on this post.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream!

xo, Lauren

  5. For instance assuming the event is a birthday celebration, ideally, let's pick an Inflatables that looks like a birthday cake or a great house. Assuming it's a congregation cook out, a jumping castle that looks like a major burger will fit flawlessly. Water slide rentals Wentzville, MO

  7. https://www.floraindia.com/cake-delivery/delhi.html How long has it been since you've made a great pound cake? This has got to be one of my all-time favorite cakes - especially with a nice lemon glaze, although it's pleasingly satisfying plain too.
